A Letter To My 8 Year Old

Kids Musings

This week marks the big girl’s birthday and she’s been a little testing lately.  I’ve found myself reflecting and so here’s my letter to her…

Dear Ella,

I’m writing this to you on what marks your 8th birthday.  I honestly can’t believe you’re 8 already and that also makes me feel old…although you remind me frequently that I am!

I still vividly remember the day you were born. It was a cool but sunny day.  The radio was on in the hospital room and Duffy Warwick Avenue and Adele Chasing Pavements were played.
Eventually after a long day you appeared.  Completely gorgeous just as you are today.

That night I lay there and watched you in your hospital crib and couldn’t take my eyes off you and I was overwhelmed  at just how perfect you were.  Even now when I check on you at night, with your leg sticking out of the duvet, as it always is, I’m amazed that I have such a brilliant daughter.

image

You have always been a little treasure and my little friend. When it was just us two I cherished our Fridays of “little day” when I’d collect you from nursery at lunchtime and we’d go to the park or do baking.

image

When you just used to want to eat chunks of butter

After Paul let you cover him in bandages and you realised he was good for sitting on his shoulders, you accepted him and you’re now as thick as thieves and you always tell me you’re on his “team”.

image

You were a complete superstar when Oliver was born early and rarely moaned at spending every weekend and school holiday at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. You were the best big sister he could have ever asked for and you were so brave and strong when we lost him.

image

The day Oliver tried so hard to say your name

And now you’re big sister to Poppy and my brilliant little helper.  I know you’re a little jealous of her but you have no need to be.  Poppy just needs more looking after because she’s so tiny…but that doesn’t mean we love you any less.

image

My two girls

Of course you can be cheeky and a pain in the bum at times but I’m incredibly proud of how polite and kind you are and we are very lucky to have such a lovely girl.

image

There are no words!

You’re my little girl and you always will be.

Mummy

Oh my goodness this is so sweet, I kind of just teared up (so emotional, still 5 months after baby was born lol). What an amazing letter, and how great that she accepted Paul into the family, I remember when I finally accepted my Mom’s new boyfriend, it truly was a monumental moment! haha #thebabyformula
